Often, we talk in absolutes – black / white, good / bad, success / failure – but what we are describing are the extremes of two opposing scenarios.

We are never one or the other, we are a blend of the two – somewhere in the middle. We exist in the grey.

We love to apply labels as though there is a magical point of which everything one side is one thing and is automatically transformed into the other once that point is passed. Where that point is we seem to decided based on our preconceived narrative.

We may be dissatisfied with our work, it’s not as good as we’d hoped – not good therefore must mean it is bad, right?

But, it is never ‘bad’, and by the same token will never be ‘good’ in an absolute sense. Our work exists on a sliding scale between the two extremes, without ever being completely one or the other.

This applies to most everything in life. There is no black or white. We exist in the grey.
