prints

If you’re like me you’ve probably come across a piece of art that hits you on a deeply internal level and you long to take it with you and experience that feeling over and over again.

There’s something very special about owning an original piece of art, not only by bringing the art into your home but also by supporting the artist who created it.

As much as we’d love to buy each and every special piece we come across, original artwork can be expensive however it is worth investigating if there are alternative options available at a price point that is affordable – two such possibilities being Limited Edition and Open Edition prints.

Limited Edition Prints

Limited edition prints are reproductions made in a short specific run, numbered and signed by the artist and often come with a certificate of authenticity. For this reason they hold great value.

Limited edition prints are often of high value due to the quality of inks and paper which will be higher compared to a large run of open edition prints that have been done quickly. Because of their limited nature, limited edition prints will also sell well on the secondary market in the future if this is a consideration for you.

Open Edition Prints

Open edition prints are less expensive than limited edition prints due to the chance of there being so many available – there is no limit to how many can be printed and sold. Open edition prints can’t be numbered and therefore tracked down by dealers and collectors to confirm its authenticity.

I’ve personally own a number of limited edition prints from a variety of artists I love and while owning an original of theirs would be the fantasy, seeing the artists signature and the number 27 of 48 written beneath the image gives me a sense of pride that I am one of a select few to be able to gaze readily upon such compelling pieces of art.
