This first head drawing phase of the Watts Atelier online curriculum is build around understanding methods of constructing the human head with respect to proportions, planes and muscle rhythms.
This was a very thorough phase with sections dedicated to studying (and ultimately committing to memory) the skull, the planes of the head (through working with various versions of the Asaro head) and the rhythmical head abstraction based on the Reilly Technique.
It was a desire to learn more about the Reilly Technique that lead me to discover the Watts Atelier in the first place so I was very excited to understand more about what this is all about.
After working through this phase I went out and picked up my own Classic Asaro head model as I can see this will be an invaluable reference tool well into the future.
