The main goal for the 30 Pieces in 30 Days challenge I am currently undertaking was to force myself to clock on every day and work, and to step outside my comfort zone in terms of subject and technique to both explore more about the medium and also myself – what sort of things make me tick.

Are the techniques and mediums I am trying out something I want to persist with or am I not really feeling the love?

One of the techniques I was keen to explore a bit more about was palette knife painting. I have seen some fantastic examples of palette knife work and which has inspired me to put some time and effort into this method of painting.

That said, the 30 Pieces in 30 Days challenge was always going to be more about mindset and work ethic than producing well developed pieces (the window of time I can spend each day at the moment, and therefore on any one piece, is a couple of hours) but from what I have so far achieved, palette knife work is something that I would like to develop further.

It certainly is a tricky technique to control and can end up pretty messy pretty quickly but as with all things, each piece you learn more, discover the areas where you can improve and take that over to your next piece where the whole process of work and reflection is repeated.

It really is a never ending quest to reach the perfection found at the end of the rainbow, just be sure to enjoy the journey on the way.
