After attempting to replicate the work of a couple of Edgar Degas and Richard Schmid at the previous two painting classes, I thought it was time to have a go at an original painting, but what that was to be I wasn’t quite sure.

As it happened, Becc Vidovich, a photographer friend of ours had recently taken some pictures down at Henley Beach for my wife, and her sister. They were both pregnant at the time and wanted some photos to record the occasion. My young boy also happened to be at home that day so he went along for the ride and managed to pop up in a couple of the photos himself.

We were viewing the resultant CD of images on the TV when one particular photo of Max popped up that I thought instantly would look great as a painting .

Bingo, I now had subject material.

I was really happy with this piece. There is something about his eyes that capture his loving nature coupled with his cheeky boyhood charm.
