Looking for opportunities to broaden my painting knowledge, I joined the Burnside Painting Group which run a number of classes over the course of the year on a wide range of topics.
Unfortunately, the only evening class is on Wednesday evenings which means I’d have to miss the Life Art sessions for next the 7 weeks but that is the way the cookie crumbles I guess.
The class on offer this term is entitled ‘Painting in Acrylics…Developing your own style’, tutored by local artist Craig Bowyer.
The first session involved a number of sketching exercises and then we were asked to spend the rest of the evening copying a piece of art from one of the masters to get an appreciation on how they went about things.
After flicking through a number of books that were piled in front of us, I finally settled on a painting from Edgar Degas titled Emma Dobigny and managed to make a reasonable crack at it in the hour and a bit we had left.
