The SALA (South Australian Living Artists) Festival ran during the month of August and was a great opportunity to get out and see some local art – it occurred to me that I should be immersing myself more in the art community and saw this as a perfect opportunity.

One such venue that I found close to home was Gallery One, located within the Mitcham Cultural Village.

While perusing the exhibition there I got talking to one of the staff there about some of the classes and programs that the gallery offered – mainly during working hours but some in the evenings.

One such opportunity was the Portrait Drawing Group and I felt that would be a great chance to practice more drawing from life and in capturing a likeness in quick time.

I finally built up the courage to head down and the lucky recipient of my first foray into portrait drawing was Pearl, who sat for 2 x 40 minute poses.

For a first off crack, I was reasonably pleased with the result.
