Following on from my recent experience of giving a piece of art as a gift, with both my sister-in-law and her partner both reaching a significant birthday this year it was another opportunity to share the love, plus it gave me a final painting to complete as part of the acrylic painting class I’ve been attending.

Late last year my sister-in-law and her partner returned from a 12 month trip around Australia – although you could say it was mostly through the more remote bits most people don’t get to experience than around.

We asked them to pick out their favorite photograph from the trip and I would paint it up for them as a joint birthday present, an offer which they were happy with.

They chose an image from a remote Indigenous community named Kaltukatjara (originally named Docker River) which is southwest of Alice Springs, near the Western Australia and Northern Territory border.

The location held a special place for them and it was a privilege to do be able to complete this piece with that in mind.

Their appreciation was more than worth the effort.
